PURPOSE OF THE CONTEST REVIEW
Scope of the Contest ReviewThe subject matter of the Contest Review is formed by architectonic and urban development studies, as well as implementations completed in course of 2008 and yet not registered in previous years of the “Architect of the Year” competition.
Purpose and mission of the Contest Review
The purpose of the Contest Review is to map the work of young novice architects whose age does not exceed 33 years, to help young creative authors to find a place on the current architectonic scene, to attract potential students of architecture, and last but not least to make the wide public more familiar with architecture.
Type of the Contest Review
The Contest Review is organised as a non-anonymous single-round contest review of studies and constructions already implemented.
Method of enunciation of the Contest Review
The Contest Review will be enunciated through professional media, on the www sites of the organiser (www.abf.cz), on the www sites of the competition (www.architectaward.cz) - right on the main page and on the www sites of the Czech Chamber of Architects (www.cka.cc).
Prerequisites of announcement of results of the Contest Review
The organiser will announce its decision about the selection of the best designs o of the Contest Review by distributing a report on the course of the Contest Review by e-mail to all the participants as well as Jury members. The results will be published in a similar way as the one in which the actual Contest Review has been enunciated.
Language of the Contest Review
The Contest Review is enunciated and will be organised in Czech and English. Therefore all parts of the background materials submitted must be drawn up in Czech or English.
COMPETITION BACKGROUND MATERIALS
Required parts of the contest design, their content, layout or other specifications- Application for participation in the International Contest Review of Implementations and Studies for Students of Architecture and Architects and Self-taught people younger than 33 years old.
- Affirmation in the case of implementation, the written consent of the authors and of the investor, or of the property owner is necessary.
- Payment of the fee amounting to CZK 1,000 to the account no. 5085320005/4000, LBBW Bank CZ a.s., background data for payment (variable code, IBAN - CZ19 4000 0000 0050 8532 0005, BIC – BAWACZPP) will be sent to you through a response e-mail houdkova@abf.cz, after receiving your on-line application. The amount is designed for production of display panels and presentations within the framework of a travelling exhibition. It is possible to pay the fee also personally on submission of the contest background information to the Contest Secretary.
- Digital part (1x CD or DVD)
Text – The text part will contain a brief characteristic of the construction – description of the functional design, structural and building design, location, materials, technologies, exhibition time, etc. (max. 2,000 characters, including spaces, in the .doc format) - Graphic part
- For implementations:
- 4–6 photographs (in the TIF, JPG formats, printing quality – 300 DPI in a format of 20 x 30 cm), which the author considers as necessary for the construction assessment
- Documentation which the author considers as necessary for correct assessment of the construction (especially drawings – situation, layout of a typical floor level, typical cross section, possibly a chart of the structural design of building details – in the EPS, BMP, PDF, TIF, JPG format)
- The graphic layout of the panel should be according to the structure described (for downloading see www.architectaward.cz) in the print PDF, A1 formats
- For studies – school designs (for students of Czech universities only):
- 2-4 architectural perspectives (in the TIF, JPG formats, printing quality – 300 DPI in a format of 20 x 30 cm), which the author considers as necessary for the construction assessment
- Situation, layout of a floor level, typical cross section, possibly a chart of the structural design of building details (in the EPS, BMP, PDF, TIF, JPG formats), possibly other documentation which the author considers as necessary for the right construction assessment
- The graphic layout of the panel should be according to the template prescribed (for downloading see www.architectaward.cz) in the print PDF, A1 formats
- For studies:

Contest documentation
The contest documentation of the constructions registered becomes property of the organiser for the purpose of publicity and presentation of the Contest Review.
Binding method of the contest documentation identification
All the parts of the contest designs (application, document of payment of the fee, consent of the author and of the owner of the construction for implementation, digital part, printed presentation) will be marked with author’s name and will be inserted into an envelope with the text: „Architect Award ABF 2009 - realizace“ (“Architect Award ABF 2009 – Implementation”), „Architect Award ABF 2009 - studie – školní práce“ (“Architect Award ABF 2009 – Studies - School Designs - (for students of Czech universities only) or „Architect Award ABF 2009 - studie“ (“Architect Award ABF 2009 – Studies”)
Permissible manners of submission of contest designs
The contest designs can be submitted any business day in the week at the time from 08:00 to 16:00 hours and on the last day of the time period for submission from 08.00 to 12:00 hours to the Contest Review Secretary
In the case that the contest design is sent by post, it must be delivered to the Secretary not later than on the last day and hour designed for submission (see 11.4). Responsibility for timely delivery of the contest design will be borne by the applicant.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The criteria, according to which the contest designs are to be assessed, are determined without specifying their order as follows:- Quality of the architectonic design
- Layout and functional designs, including the interior
- Urban development study of the location selected in the context of the entire area, relation to the environment and existing development
- Suitability of the use of materials, technologies and structures
The Jury will exclude from assessment all the designs which:
- fail to comply with the content requirements of the enunciation
- do not correspond to formal requirements of the present Contest Conditions
- were not delivered within the deadline required
The Jury reserves the right to decide about non-inclusion and exclusion of some designs which do not show features of architectonic designs, from the travelling exhibition.
CLAUSE ON COPYRIGHTS AND PUBLISHING OF CONTEST DESIGNS
Copyrights of participantsThe authors of contest designs will retain their copyrights, they can publish their contest designs and they can reuse them on other occasions.
Consent with the author’s work use for the purpose of this Contest Review
The contest designs become property of the Contest Review organiser (see point 6.4). The authors grant to the organiser their consent with the use of their work for the purpose of this Contest Review. The use of the author’s work for any purposes other than the ones referred to in these contest conditions is, however, subject to an express consent of the authors. The CD’s (DVD’s) and printed sets will only be returned to the authors at request after the end of the exhibition.
Consent of participants with the display of contest designs
By submission of the contest designs, the participants express their consent with a free-of-charge reproduction and display of their contest designs within the framework of promotion of the Contest Review and its results.
Report on the course of the Contest Review
- The Secretary, or another person authorised by the Jury Chairperson, will make a report on the course of the Contest Review from all the Jury meetings, the correctness of which is to be verified through the signature of all the Jury members and recording person
- The report on the course of the Contest Review includes mainly the minutes from the Jury meetings, including voting, decisions about exclusions of designs from the Contest Review, list of all contest designs assessed, assessment of all the designs, decision about the results and order determination, decision about prizes, including justification and attendance list from individual meetings of the Jury
- It is possible to record different opinions of the members of the Jury into the report on the course of the Contest Review, if these members expressly require it
- A copy of the report on the course of the Contest Review, together with the decisions about results will be distributed by the organiser to all the participants of the Contest Review, and at the same time the Czech Chamber of Architects will be made familiar therewith
